Q
Can I replace the capillary tube on my water temperature gauge - as it is
broken?
A
No. It is an integeral part of the gauge. You need to replace with either:
working second-hand, reconditioned, or new gauge assembly.

Q
Can I replace the lower trunion on my Spridget as this is the only thing it
has failed on the MOT?
A
No. The wishbone and kingpin/stub axle assembly both need replacing. This
sounds more difficult than it is. They are simple bolt-on units.

Q
Can I run my MG on unleaded petrol?
A
Strictly speaking, you should have hardened valve seats fitted to the
cylinder head, but a lot of our customers use unleaded petrol (some with, but
most without additive!) and report better starting, also better fuel
consumption!

Q
Can I change my stop-light switch without bleeding the brakes?
(Hydraulically operated types)
A
It is actually possible to change the switch as soon as the two wires have
been disconnected! It is then essential to bleed each corner, to make sure all
of the air has been expelled.

Q
My rev-counter does not work. Is it the wiring?
A
It is impossible to say without seeing the actual car. If you; make sure the
case is earthed and the unit is the powered live when the ignition is switched
on (test with bulb) then this ususlly sorts out most cases.

Q
Do I have to remove the passenger seat from my Spridget in order to
replace my handbrake cable?
A
Yes, even if this may seem like a lot of effort, it is by far the best way,
giving plenty of access, and saving knuckle-skin!
Q
How do I replace my MGB headlining?
A
This has to be carefully manoeuvered back and forth with great care and
gently eased out, being careful not to crease the corners.

Q
I can't seem to bleed my 'A-series' clutch(58-74S&M) properly. Air feels
present in the system, but the clutch doesn't operate properly have I done
something wrong?
A
No, you have done a perfectly normal thing, but what the designers did not
tell us is that air gets trapped behind the piston in the slave cylinder. You
need to force the piston back into the bore, secure it with plastic tie-wraps
and then expel the air!
